WHAT WE DO

KWHL actively responds to current issues including violations of women's rights and gender discrimination.

Feminist counseling approaches women clients as individuals who have been oppressed by gender discrimination in a patriarchal society. It rejects the traditional therapeutic view that all problems stem from the individual and takes a macro-social perspective on clients' issues.

Based on field experience with survivors of violence against women, KWHL proposes and improves policies toward a gender-equal society. We led the enactment of the Sexual Violence Special Act (1993), Domestic Violence Prevention Act (1997), Framework Act on Prevention of Violence Against Women (2018), and Stalking Punishment Act (2021). We continue to advocate for proper implementation of these laws and promote gender equality policies.

Since 2007, we have continuously operated E.L.F. (Empowering, Leadership, Feminism), an educational program for mutual learning and growth. Originally designed for KWHL activists, E.L.F. has become a comprehensive brand for all our educational programs, supporting participants to lead their lives based on feminist principles.

KWHL conducts awareness campaigns on violence against women, campaigns to change discriminatory social culture and customs, and regular campaigns for International Women's Day (March 8) and International Week for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

Since 1983, KWHL has engaged in cross-border solidarity to eradicate gender discrimination and violence against women. Our international solidarity activities will continue to expand as a network that shapes and practices the landscape of women's rights movements in Asia.

FIWOM (Film Festival for Women's Rights), hosted by KWHL since 2006, raises awareness about the reality and severity of everyday violence against women and spreads a culture that supports survivors' survival and healing.
