Korea Women's Hot-Line (KWHL) has stood beside survivors of gender-based violence since our founding in 1983 — leading the passage of landmark legislation, and in 1987, opening Korea's first shelter for survivors of domestic violence.

Now, we're taking on a new challenge: building Korea's first shelter that welcomes survivors together with their companion animals.

🐾 The need

○ Abusers often threaten or harm pets as a tool of control

○ Yet none of Korea's 63 domestic violence shelters currently accpet pets

○ Many survivors delay leaving a dangerous situation or can't leave at all, rather than leave their pet behind

🏠 What we're building

○ 6 single rooms and 4 double/triple rooms, each with a private bathroom

○ Trauma-informed and universal design

○ Dedicated space for pets and children
